ALTON — The East Alton Meeting House Society will hold its Annual Potluck supper and meeting on Saturday, Aug. 17, at 5:30 p.m. The Meeting House is located at 347 Drew Hill Road on Gilman’s Corner in East Alton. The Annual Vespers service will take place on Sunday, Aug. 18, at 4 p.m. Except for a few years during Covid, these events have been a continuous part of the community since the early 1950s.

For the Potluck supper attendees should bring their favorite dish to share and a plate and cutlery for themself. Beverages will be provided. The annual meeting will follow the supper.

The Vespers service on Sunday will be a welcoming message to all faiths. The service will begin with hymn singing accompanied by music from the historic pump organ played by Joy Wallace, followed by acoustic worship lead by Josh Button. Bryan Eklund, a Gilman’s Corner resident, will share a testimony of community, remembrance and fellowship. The service will end with Reflections on Unity (Psalm 133) with Senior Pastor of the New England Bible Church in Andover Tyler Thompson. Tyler is also the chief boiler for the 219 Sugar Shack on Gilman’s Corner.
