MEREDITH — After a 31-year career, Cynthia A. Bruning, owner of ColorShed, LLC, is retiring her showroom but will continue consulting in the construction and design industry.

ColorShed has been a permanent fixture in the Lakes Region since its founding in the early 1970s. Then located in the area's first indoor shopping mall known as the Homestead Building, ColorShed began as a painting contractor and grew its business to include all interior finish selections, offering design, selection and installation.

In 1992, Bruning joined the team in residential sales. Nine years later, on June 15, 2001, she acquired the business. Just like other legacy companies in the area, ColorShed has weathered the business cycles, including 911 and several recessions by responding to the changing needs of her residential and commercial clients.

In 2015, Bruning moved her showroom and operation to a new location within Ippolitos' furniture store, where she continued to design and consult with area general contractors, homeowners, businesses and municipalities.

Although Bruning is retiring her showroom, she is excited about the new creative possibilities found in consulting; she will remain active in the design and construction industry by responding to consulting requests in and outside of the Lake's Region.

Bruning said new builds and renovation can be overwhelming for homeowners, especially for those new to the area. But, after forging professional relationships for decades in the area's construction industry, she is able to make the overwhelming process easier for homeowners by connecting them with general contractors, electricians, plumbers, drywallers, painters, roofers, masons and flooring installers.

Her product knowledge and relationships with regional and national manufacturers of LVP, tile, carpet, hardwood, cork, bamboo and fabrics will streamline the selection process for homeowners and general contractors.
