Bank of New Hampshire sponsors Year of the Book program

LACONIA — Bank of New Hampshire has contributed $5,000 to the Children’s Literacy Foundation’s Year of the Book program at the Gossler Park Elementary School in Manchester.

CLiF’s mission is to inspire a love of reading and writing among low-income, at-risk, and rural kids (12 and under) in New Hampshire and Vermont. The CLiF Year of the Book program helps build a culture of literacy by providing students, parents and teachers at a sponsored school with literacy programs, support and new books over one school year. Each school typically receives more than 15 literacy programs, such as writing workshops, author visits, family literacy nights, parent seminars and storytelling programs. It also receives brand-new books for the school library, the public library and school classrooms, and grants for teachers to support their own literacy initiatives. Additionally, during the course of the year, every child is able to select up to 10 brand-new books of their choice to keep from hundreds of popular titles.

“Thanks to Bank of New Hampshire, Glossler Park’s CLiF Year of the Book is already in full swing,” said Duncan McDougall, executive director for CLiF. “Children’s book author and illustrator Marty Kelley visited the school to deliver thousands of new books and to give the kickoff presentations, and we delivered $2,000 in new, hardcover children’s books selected by the librarians to add to their collections at the school’s library as well as at the nearby public library. We thank Bank of New Hampshire for their loyal and generous support of CLiF’s work.”
