MEREDITH  Ben & Jerry’s at Mill Falls Marketplace turned an ordinary spring day into a celebration of community and joy during its annual Free Cone Day.

Ice cream lovers lined up — rain and all — to enjoy a free scoop, and by the end of the day, more than 2,400 scoops had been happily served.

The event wasn’t just about sweet treats — it also made a meaningful impact locally. Through the generosity of guests, $500 was raised to support two area nonprofits: the Winnipesaukee Wellness Center and the New Hampshire Humane Society.

“Free Cone Day is all about gratitude,” said Manager Liz Breton. “It’s our way of saying thank you to the best fans in the world — with free ice cream and a little moment of joy. Seeing so many people come out, even in the rain, to support our nonprofit partners made this year especially special. We’re incredibly thankful for our community’s support.”

Since its conception in 1979, Free Cone Day has been a way for Ben & Jerry’s to give back to the community that helped it grow from a single Scoop Shop in a renovated gas station in Burlington, Vermont, to one of the most beloved ice cream companies worldwide. What started as a simple “thank you” from co-founders Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield to fans for helping them survive their first Vermont winter. Free Cone Day has turned into a global celebration, with fans lining up for free scoops in more than 35 countries.
