A returned astronaut had a surprise when she gazed out of a passenger plane window and saw a rocket she had recently ridden.

NASA spacewoman Anne McClain watched a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket rise into the sky as her plane left Los Angeles International Airport on Sunday, Sept. 28.

She said: "What’re the chances?! I looked out my airplane window and saw a very familiar sight.

"Turns out, my departure from LAX was perfectly timed to see a SpaceX Falcon 9 Starlink launch from California.

"Hard to believe it’s only been 6 months since I took that same ride!"

A former Army helicopter pilot, McClain has logged more than 200 days in orbit during her missions to the International Space Station.

The launch carried another batch of Starlink satellites for SpaceX’s growing internet constellation.
