Drone shots show ‘Outlander’ castle’s gardens in full bloom from up high

Stunning drone photos show gardens in full bloom at the iconic castle where "Outlander" was filmed.

Drummond Castle near Crieff in Scotland was used in season two of the show as a stand-in for the Palace of Versailles.

Its elaborate gardens began as just four rows of trees planted toward the end of the 17th century by Drummond Castle's 4th Earl.

Over the years, they began to take shape — until 1745, when the gardens were abandoned following the annexation of the estate after the second Jacobite Rising.

By the 19th century, however, under the ownership of Clementina Drummond and her husband Peter Robert Willoughby, the gardens began their restoration project.

In 1842, Queen Victoria and Prince Albert visited the gardens, reportedly noting that they "walked in the garden which is really very fine, with terraces, like an old French garden," and the monarch planted two copper beech trees which still stand today.

After World War II, a reduced workforce meant the gardens had to be simplified — but by 1978, the Grimsthorpe and Drummond Castle Trust to maintain the castle buildings, gardens and surrounding park had been formed.

The garden has enjoyed its share of screen time over the years, not just featuring in "Outlander," but also in 1995's "Rob Roy," starring Liam Neeson.

While the castle is not open to the public, the gardens themselves are open to visitors each year between May and October — when the trees and flowers are in full bloom.
