Summer has arrived, bringing with it the perfect opportunity to help protect our beautiful lake. Our waters are especially vulnerable during the warmer months due to increased population and recreational activities. Simple actions can make a significant difference, ensuring the lake remains clean and healthy for everyone to enjoy. Here’s a “Winni dozen” ways you can do your part to Keep Winni Blue:
A Winni Dozen Ways to Love the Lake
Wash boats away from the lake.
Inspect your boats, trailers, and equipment for invasive species.
Never feed the wildlife.
Never rake leaves or dump sand into the lake
Inspect and pump septic systems regularly.
Put a bilge sock in your boat.
Eliminate or reduce the use of household hazardous products.
Stabilize soil with native plants and/or natural wood chips to prevent erosion.
Aid in our lake protection efforts — become a member of Lake Winnipesaukee Association.
Use phosphate-free fertilizers if you must, but consider alternative practices like aeration.
Keep a well vegetated shoreline buffer.
Educate your family, friends and neighbors on lake-minded practices.
Enjoy the lake. It’s why we live here.
