To The Daily Sun,
“All the great things are simple, and many can be expressed in a single word: freedom, justice, honor, duty, mercy, hope.” – Winston Churchill
Watching the debacle in the oval office on Friday, I did not see one single of these words offered to a president of another war torn country who has been the target of Russian aggression for three years. An estimated 12,605 have been killed including the 2,406 innocent children, who have been both injured and/or killed. This was after the mindblowing fact that U.S. sided with Russia at the United Nations meeting last week.
After the disastrous meeting, our allies across the ocean immediately offered support to Ukraine. Why is our current regime supporting Putin?
In World War II, the policy of our country getting involved was hampered by the Neutrality Acts that limited a president's ability to intervene in foreign conflicts. Because these were initially in place, Adolf Hitler was emboldened to invade Western Europe without fear of American intervention. History shows us what happened as a result.
What do readers think will happen now?
If readers are at all concerned, they should keep reaching out to their political representatives. Call or write to representatives in Congress, call and write to the White House, and speak with elected officials about supporting Ukraine.
Once again, if concerned, each one of us can speak up. Anthropologist Margaret Mead is known for saying, "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it's the only thing that ever has."
