To The Daily Sun,
The weeks previously have displayed multiple letters of variable points of views. There has been one item missing. The cause for unity. Opposing points of view attack other's letters. Some this writer agrees with, others I do not. What bothers me however, is the fact no one offers routes for union. During the Civil War, the one dream of Abraham Lincoln was to restore the unity that made this country. It seems in recent days, this dream has been seriously compromised, especially by our president.
One writer continues to display capital letters to shout his opinion. Being hearing impaired, I remain deaf to his endeavors. Another writer continues to offer false or fake views that continue to strike at the heart of those who tremble at his words.
The efforts to come together in a common cause must begin, the sooner, the better. Our common cause is the freedom for which the American Revolution was fought. The freedoms of speech, to support the religions the rights to worship. Christians need to realize there are other religions that are protected, and this goes for all religions. We also have the right to be protected from any religion.
The Second Amendment is equally important. One writer suggested that those who wish to bear certain weapons normally designated for the military to be assigned a militia to serve in times when defense of communities is essential. But we are in a new era, we have different weapons than those when the Constitution was written. There is a public health issue with the onslaught of mass shootings, killings, etc. Public health, safety, and welfare are socialist points that the Constitution provides. This supersedes any NRA efforts to keep guns from being under control. Many NRA members are leaving, because of its rigid positions. To sacrifice lives in the name of the "Second Amendment" is reprehensible.
The right to vote. This is spelled out in multiple amendments. There absolutely should be no one to be deprived of the right to vote. No literacy tests, racial qualifications, location, religious preference, sex, sexual orientation, etc. should determine who can vote. Being an American citizen is the only qualification a voter needs to be able to vote. Period. No exceptions.
How does unity come into play here? During a recent mass attack in Boston, a slogan was "Boston Strong." In this country we should be able to say, "United States and American States Strong!" (This includes all the countries in this hemisphere). During the Trump administration, unity is a curse word. Mr. Trump is the "Divider in Chief." This threatens our existence as well as this planet. The focus of the upcoming election's priority should be unity above all others. We need to get together and stop criticizing each other. As the old saying goes, "Divided we fall, in unity we are strong."
Labor is regaining its influence. We have a common cause to protect the workers, their families. Labor is the strength of this country, not the 1 percent. Without labor, there would be no 1 percent. The 1 percent needs to give back and become one of us.
So how do we get the Wiles, Boutins, Earles to work with the Cracrafts, myself, the Vervakes, Bernadettes, etc. My offer is we all sit down together sometime and hash out our differences and listen. The hard inevitable truths are the mass shootings, climate change, corporate greed, minimum or a living wage, religious corrupt attempts to judge others, health care, socialism, needs to be discussed in a gentle like manner. There should be no judgement on either side. Let's show this country this can work, starting here in N.H.
Remember too, everyone does have interesting points of view coming from variable backgrounds and walks of life. And everyone has the right to speak. A moderator would be needed to keep things calm and respectable. Anyone starting to become angry and shouting should step outside, take a moment to breath before returning to the table. Let's all become the wise individuals to help move our communities, our state, our country forward.
A word about Mr. Trump. In recent weeks he has changed significantly. His speech is becoming rambled words, no sentences, sometimes not even clearly. His anger, his narcissism has worsened. As a former medical professional, he exhibits the very signs of dementia, perhaps even Alzheimer's. He is not a well man, and is unfit to lead this country any longer. By coming together we can overcome this dangerous situation. We need to do this now, not later.
