To The Daily Sun,
When is old too old? When someone is 82 years old, that's when. Just because we're not smart enough to pass age restrictions in politics doesn't mean we should be voting for people that old.
Listen, I think politics as a whole is an absolute joke and I waste no time with it but I see Laconia with lots of issues and heading in the wrong direction. The one thing I don't see is an 82-year-old man relating to them.
Do readers know who 80-year-old people relate to? Other 80-year-old people. Not a struggling single mom in her 50s, or a 40-year-old man who just lost his job. And especially not a young person in their late teens or early 20s who are just stepping out into the world. This is a problem. I respect older people as much as anyone else and I agree that they are full of wisdom, but the wisdom, like themselves, is outdated. The one thing I've found with the older people in my life is that they become stubborn, and not willing to change. Not what Laconia needs right now.
I've read that Mr. Cheney is a good decision maker. Wanting to become mayor of Laconia at 82 years old, in very turbulent times, when he's already comfortable in his retirement is not a good decision. Nor is the fact that we still allow people to run for office in their 80s. The younger people need to come out and vote so we can get rid of the grumpy old man's club that has been behind the scenes in Laconia politics for years.
