To The Daily Sun,

I recently saw that Laconia's own Charlie St. Clair has publicly endorsed Cinde Warmington for governor. Charlie has long presented himself as someone who values integrity and honesty, which makes his endorsement of a known liar and opioid lobbyist Cinde Warmington all the more surprising.

While working as a lobbyist for Purdue Pharma, Warmington described OxyContin as a “miracle drug” with “very few side effects.” Now, as she runs for governor, she has tried to distance herself from these comments by claiming she was unaware of Purdue Pharma’s lies surrounding the drug at the time. That claim does not hold up. On the very same day she delivered that testimony, state officials were already raising serious concerns about OxyContin and warning of its dangers.

Belknap County has felt the devastating impact of the opioid crisis firsthand. It’s sad to see Charlie St. Clair openly defend and support an opioid lobbyist.
