Robert Solonche: The disgrace of the Tilton transfer station

This is entitled "The disgrace of the Tilton transfer station," and here's why:

I've been a friend and user of the Tilton transfer station for several years, especially for recycling. It's been a great relationship until recently when the whole system has become a disaster.

I heard from a selectperson some weeks ago that a change was coming, but I had no idea that the recycling would become useless. They no longer accept glass or plastic, which is the vast majority of our recycling. The word from the transfer station is to put the plastic in the burn bin and to throw the glass in the trash. What? Is this recycling? Easy answer, no.

All they will recycle now are aluminum, metal cans and corrugated cardboard. Wow. They have a brand-new cardboard baler. The town administrator was there on Wednesday showing it off. What a silly thing. It reminds me of the "machine that goes ping," Monte Python's allusion to a useless object which is the pride and joy of useless management.

I, as a citizen of Tilton, am outraged by this situation. We will now have to go to Concord and pay Casella for our recycling.

Shame on Tilton. Greta will hear about this.
