To The Daily Sun,
The Tilton-Northfield Fire District has an article in the warrant to build two fire stations at a cost of $21 million. This will cost taxpayers about $1.20 per $1,000, or about $370 on a home valued at $300,000. Instead of two stations, one would cost far less to taxpayers. One of the stations proposed was next to the Tilton Police Station on Sanborn Road. One station is more likely to pass than two. Cost of the station on Sanborn Road would be about $7-8 million, this is about one third of what they want.
We do need to replace the old station downtown for sure but let's be reasonable about the cost of this project. We already have the land on Sanborn so why not put it there and keep the Park Street station as is?
Note: In 2019 the voters turned down a proposal for a $7.2 million for a station.
The bottom-line here is that it's just too expensive.
Voters need to vote on this important article on March 16 at 7 p.m. in the Winnisquam High.
