Michael Breen: A recent letter to the editor warrants a response about it

Respectfully, Memori Velentin’s assertions on Feb. 18 regarding the ICE facility to be constructed are wrong on multiple levels. It is not this chiefly self-maintaining facility that would “impact local traffic,” or tax “health care, social support, or family assistance programs.” Rather, it is the magnitude of this invasion, in which local and state governments were wholly unprepared, that has negatively impacted our educational and allied services. Likewise, the “larger public safety, community well-being, and serious drug and crime issue” which concerns Memori Velentin generally emanate from transnational organized crime entities; all greatly facilitated by the corruption inherent in the 11-20 illegal immigrant invasion.

Because the Biden administration stopped all screening and DNA confirmation among human traffickers and children, we do not know what individuals comprise the “immigrant families” which concerns Memori Velentin. Yet we are rescuing hundreds of thousands of surviving children, forced to reimburse cartels from dangerous jobs in violation of our child labor laws, and/or from cartel managed robust sex trade entities. The claim that “local residents contribute more to crime statistics than immigrant communities” is a sophistry of reason. This flawed “study” is still cited as though the illegal immigrant allied largest theft of public funds in our history ($11 billion) never happened. Importantly, comparing crimes that could not have occurred to an existing crime rate is as inane as it is offensive to surviving crime victims. Genuine immigrant families will always be welcomed in America in the manner consistent with our rule of law. This includes vetting for prior criminal histories, diseases, mental health concerns and terrorist ties in the same manner that our ancestors entered. The robust criminality of the last administration necessitates our need to resource and revive our rule of law, just like every other rational nation on Earth would.
