To The Daily Sun,

I would like to address the self-storage epidemic I’ve seen happening here in recent years. I understand why we have them, and they do have their good uses, but what if you used the land in a better way? Let’s say elderly housing or living space for disabled veterans. Why isn’t the state willing to help these people? I think that the two groups I mentioned need it more than most of the “needy” I see up here. It totally breaks my heart to see this kind of neglect. They’ve worked hard their entire lives to simply end up living the way they do, and the veterans gave us so much to just barely “survive” day to day.

If you consider that some of the “tiny houses” you see — including the one manufactured by the Huot Technical Center — they can be built for as little as $18,000 and as much as $40,000, depending on size and accouterments. And they don’t take up much more space than a storage unit. Think about the difference that could be made if we really wanted to.

Another issue that has been on mind is this: A few months back, The Sun had a writeup about the lack of employment help in shops and restaurants here in this area. I have to laugh at that because I now know from experience that a person can apply to 10 jobs and never receive a simple callback. Or you can go in for an interview and never hear back from them again. Maybe that’s part and parcel of your employment problem as well — too many of these local employers seem to be far too picky to give people a chance. Many lack the fundamental business manners and courtesies to let applicants know not just how they fared, but what skills they may be missing that would help them the next time they apply. And this is not just me talking — I hear it from many others my age (51) and older.

Here's an idea. convert all those self storage units into tiny apartments for the losers who show up for job interviews with rings in their noses and lips, tattoos on their faces wearing death metal T shirts and flip flops, who wonder why no one wants to hire them.

Republicans!

Over your head again I read.

I know you can read. I know it. So why not comment on what the letter talks about instead of trying to sound like a fool. She was talking about homeless seniors and vets. Not you.
