Lorraine Bartlett: Veterans thankful for well wishes sent from strangers

To the Daily Sun,

My 94-year-old mother, Rita Landry, is a resident of the New Hampshire Veterans Home. At her request, she asked that I send you this letter.

Every year at this time she and other NHVH residents receive dozens of cards from people wishing them a happy Christmas and merry New Year. These are people they don’t know, and yet the cards are filled with warm regards and words of thanks to the veterans for their service. In particular, one woman who signs the cards, Lorry from Sanbornton, always includes a special note about the picture on each card and sometimes even a little joke.

My mom/Rita wanted to express her thanks and deepest gratitude to the many people who do this. It warms her heart and brings a smile to her face each time she receives and reads one. She doesn’t know the full names or addresses of those individuals and thus the reason for asking me to send this letter to the paper. She believes posting this letter of thanks in The Daily Sun is a way of letting those people know how grateful she is. I trust you’ll agree.
