Lois Kessin: Lois Kessin running for state representative in Laconia

My name is Lois Kessin and I am running for state representative from Laconia.

As someone who loved growing up here and returned to live here 10 years ago, I want to give back to my community in a new way and help make Laconia and Belknap County more livable for all of our citizens. This decision to run follows years of other types of community service, including serving on local boards, volunteering at the Loon Center. I've worked on food drives and Hands Across the Table. I was active working to save St. Joseph’s Church and Gunstock. I also take care of the Veterans’ Gardens at Union and Bayside Cemeteries.

I attended excellent public schools here from kindergarten through high school. Soccer later became my career and my passion, working as a soccer coach at the high school and college levels. I spent my free time promoting soccer for women and girls.

My priority issues are the environment, moderate income housing, and return of the restorative justice programs. Protection of our lakes, mountains, and wetlands preserves the beauty of New Hampshire and is also crucial to our area economy and the health of all of us in the Lakes Region. With regard to the housing crisis, we have all seen staffing shortages and young people leaving the area due to finding no affordable places to live, this would be a priority. The restorative justice, the program that was eliminated provided a path for people convicted of non-violent crimes to become productive members of society; a goal all of us who worry about crime share.

In my community activities to date, I worked with people from all walks of life, with different political perspectives. If elected as a state representative, I would do the same. Please consider voting for me.
