Leonard Witt: Kamen in Epstein files. Companies take action. GOP silent

Companies and nonprofits affiliated with Dean Kamen, the Manchester-based inventor of Segway, are distancing themselves or investigating him after he repeatedly has shown up in the Epstein files.

Kamen is not alone. Former Treasury Secretary Larry Summers, apologized for the “pain he caused.” Paul Weiss resigned as chairman of Brad Karp, a nationally known law firm. David Ross, former director of the Whitney Museum of American Art, left his new position at a Manhattan art school. The list of European politicians who have resigned or apologized is long.

But Politico reports, “Donald Trump's Republican Party has largely averted its eyes or rallied to the president's defense despite his documented ties to Epstein and the unverified additional allegations against the president that appeared last week.”

Remember, Jeffrey Epstein was charged as a fixer for famous, rich and powerful men to have sex with girls as young as 13. That’s rape.

His partner in crime Ghislaine Maxwell was sentenced to 20 years in prison for, according to a U.S. Justice Department press release, abuse that “included sexualized massages during which a minor victim was fully or partially nude, as well as group sexualized massages of Epstein involving a minor victim where Maxwell was present. In some instances, Maxwell participated in the sexual abuse of minor victims.”

Last July, a former Trump lawyer visited her in prison and afterward she was sent to a new prison often referred to “Club Fed” because the inmates have relative comfort and freedom. Why did a partner in rape get special treatment from the Trump administration? Republican leadership and their constituents must demand answers and not defend powerful men who befriended or participated with Epstein and Maxwell as they raped little girls.
