To The Daily Sun,
I urge Laconia voters to vote for James Lowell for Police Commission. I have known Jim Lowell and the incumbent, Frank Mello, for more than 20 years. Both are good and honorable men.
However, the city has been going through significant growth for the past decade, and can expect even more growth in the next decade as the State School property gets developed. The city and police commission need new leadership and James Lowell is that person.
Jim was born and raised in Laconia. He left at a young age when he enlisted in the U.S. Navy as a corpsman. Upon completion of his term, he went to Plymouth State and earned his bachelor’s degree. He then rejoined the Navy as a commissioned officer and would serve honorably for 24 years, retiring as a Lieutenant Commander. While in the Navy, Jim earned his master’s degree in strategic planning, which will be a huge benefit to the police commission. Jim’s service in advanced leadership roles, commanding mine sweepers, gives him a very good perspective on the leadership needs of the police department.
The police department, along with the fire department, will require significant investment in people and equipment and possibly satellite stations in the future. Having someone with Jim Lowell’s background on the police commission will be invaluable.
Vote James Lowell.
