To The Daily Sun,
In my opinion our political system is at the lowest point in my 62-year life. I thought it couldn’t get any worse with all the personal attacks being hurled at the president since the 2016 election but the Senate confirmation of Bret Kavanaugh has hit a new low.
After 30 hours of “showboating” by Democrats in his hearings intended to ask critical questions on his rulings, personal character and fitness to become the next Supreme Court justice it looked like a done deal and that he would get confirmed. Even several Democrats were on record as potential yes votes. So, what does Diane Feinstein do? Drops a letter that she has held since July with accusations that Bret Kavanaugh sexually attacked a 15-year-old girl when he was in high school. The accuser requested anonymity but got none. Instead Dr. Christine Blasey Ford is now in the news every day and it has set off a national firestorm, with those on the left portraying Kavanaugh as a gang rapist even though the leaked charge was that he groped her through her clothing, tried to take off her clothes and covered her mouth when she tried to scream. Kavanaugh has unequivocally denied the charges.
So where are we now? Well nowhere from what I see. Senator Feinstein refuses to turn over the letter the accuser sent. The accuser has been surrounded by left-leaning lawyers and the stall tactics have been deployed. In addition, the left-leaning media has already convicted Kavanaugh, even though no evidence has been presented or due process followed. I have said in previous letters that a basic principle in this country is that everyone is assumed innocent until proven guilty. It’s what makes us different from dictatorships. The Democrats and left-leaning media are making a travesty of that principle. In their rush to “control” the Supreme Court's balance of power in favor of left-leaning causes they are willing to overturn the rule of law and destroy the character of two U.S. citizens in the process. It absolutely disgusts me. Regardless of how this all plays out, both Judge Kavanaugh and Dr. Ford will be remembered as “damaged goods.”
I’ll close this letter by making a point. No one, other than the victim and the accused knows the truth of what happened 36 years ago. To contend that they do is dishonest at best. We have a legal system in place to let an accuser come forward and state their case and present supporting evidence. Then the accused has an opportunity to dispute the accusation. Finally, a jury has to review the testimony and evidence and render a ruling. In criminal cases such as this, I believe the bar is “beyond a shadow of a doubt.” This has the potential to ruin a person’s life and it just doesn’t seem to matter to anyone on the left. They are willing to ignore 30 years of distinguished service based on one accusation. It has become a trend for them. They (the left) have ignored the best economy in decades and gone after the president for Russian collusion without any evidence also.
I feel badly for both Judge Kavanaugh and Dr. Ford, as they are both going to became “road kill” in the most dysfunctional government I have ever witnessed. I will pray for them both.

The 'evidence' that has been presented is called 'hearsay' in a court. nothing to back up the claim at all. Slander! Character assassination! This shows how low the Trump haters will go because they LOST an election. They and you James, can all go to the devil.
Alan, when a crime victim comes forward, an investigation should be considered if not undertaken immediately. It is called justice for all. You clearly do not know the definition of hearsay in a courtroom. If a second witness comes forward, then its called a corroborating witness which makes an investigation necessary and the confirmation process should be put on hold. On Thursday, a third witness is coming forward. This victim has had Federal 'secret' and 'public trust' clearances which makes her an important witness. And yes, I hate Trump and the GOP. Firstly for stealing a SCOTUS seat. I despise your cult leader for his racism. His Muslim hating. His racism. His phony religious pandering. His anti-LGBTQ. His scientific ignorance that is damaging the quality of water and air. His attacks on the press, our intelligence community, and our law enforcement agencies as enemies of the people. His attacks on our longstanding allies while he cozies up to dictators. His total lack of constitutional knowledge. I hate him for his treatment of Puerto Rico. Yes, I despise him deeply and not because he won but because of who he is; an evil man and I said so in 2015 letters. A sociopathic, malignant narcissist who makes everything about himself. The bumbling fool and his cult member sycophants can't see past their noses.
What???
iI is the lowest in my 68 years because of Trump. It is all perspective. It is all determined by "motivated reasoning" and the "confirmation biases" sought out to support one's tribe's "truths". That is one of the reasons why fact-free, name-dropping opinion letters are so laughable at times. They don't care about facts, just the propaganda that supports their tribe. Americans aren't buying Trump's nonsense or that of his sycophants. 60% disapprove. 67^ of women want him impeached. I certainly hope it translates to at least one house of Congress being taken back by Democrats. Then they will have subpoena power which will make things even more entertaining
