To The Daily Sun,
For what it's worth, recently I remembered a few years ago crossing paths with Councilor Bruce Cheney. I told him if I won Powerball I would buy the State School property and dedicate it to the city as a wildlife sanctuary. This would save the expense incident to developed property, no roads, sewers, utilities or structures to maintain, no burdens on the Department of Public Works, dramatically less need for emergency costs such as ambulance service or fire containment. A beautiful green area would enhance the city and attract visitors. Such a sanctuary would alleviate the stress on wildlife already so seriously encroached by development. Even better, undeveloped land across from the State School property on the northern side of Meredith Center Road might be added to the sanctuary. I heard a rumor years ago that the owners of that property might entertain dedicating their property to the city as a wildlife sanctuary.
When I mentioned this to Councilor Cheney he said his wife had the same thought if she won Powerball. Oh, well, no such dream will come to pass. I understand others have cherished such visions. Too bad.
