To The Daily Sun,
Everyone loves a parade, right? Especially one that highlights the amazing 250 history of our nation’s standing Army. I happen to love airshows, despite the burning of massive amounts of fossil fuel, and the contaminates introduced into our atmosphere it produces. It has been argued that these public demonstrations are a boon to recruitment, so I support them. Except when ...
This year's Army parade was co-opted by an ego larger than the nation’s Capitol itself. An insecure man full of bluster and bullying tactics that even the premier of China commented on.
And most of his party supports him. This support is despite his blatant hawking of merchandise from the Oval Office itself and a presentation at Fort Bragg. This despite Federal Law 2635.702, which is titled "Use of public office for private gain.” This law states:
Government employees "may not use their public office for their own private gain; for the endorsement of any product, service, or enterprise ... or for the private gain of friends, relatives, or persons with whom the employee is affiliated in a nongovernmental capacity, including ... persons with whom the employee has or seeks employment or business relations."
And people just shrug?
This is just one of many, many transgressions our narcissist-in-chief has committed since taking office. $40 million for the parade when we have veterans desperate for help in feeding their families and getting good health care, while also cutting Medicaid for our most needy citizens, and cutting SNAP benefits so needed to feed a family?
There are days, many days I wake up and wonder what country I am in. This is not the country I served for 26 years in the military. This is shameful.
