To The Daily Sun,
My name is Jim Lowell (commander, U.S. Navy, retired) and I am running for police commissioner. It is my intention today to introduce myself and state why I would be a positive addition to the Laconia Police Commission.
I have been a lifelong resident of my beloved city of Laconia. Apart from my service in the Navy, I have lived here my entire life. I am a member and past president of Laconia Rotary and a former board member of the Lakes Region Chamber of Commerce. I hold a master's degree from the U.S. Naval War College in national security and strategic studies. Subsequent to my retirement from the Navy, I held a management position in operations at a local resort. I have held positions in the Navy in shipboard operations and operations officer for Destroyer Squadron Six which consisted of 17 ships and commanding officer of the Manchester NH Naval and Marine Corps Reserve Center.Â
Laconia is evolving and doing so rapidly. Whether readers like or don’t like the changes we are seeing is not the point. It is happening and our police must be staffed, equipped and trained to keep our beloved city safe. We as citizens ask a great deal of our police, as we have a right to do; however, proper strategic planning to ensure our police force evolves as the city does is paramount to the future of Laconia.
My background in operations, strategic planning, budgeting and leadership would make me a positive addition to the Laconia Police Commission. I am new set of eyes and ears that will work closely with our chief, officers and fellow commissioners towards achieving the police department the future Laconia will need.
I would very much appreciate readers' support in the upcoming election.
Jim Lowell
