To The Daily Sun,
Laconia needs leaders who are accessible and committed to the community they serve. Mike Bordes has that commitment in both capacity as a Laconia mayor and a New Hampshire state representative.
The most essential trait of an elected official is to be accessible to the people. If residents have a question, concern or suggestion they should feel comfortable coming to their representative without the idea of "politics" looming over them. Mike Bordes has spoken directly with residents.
In his role as mayor, he looks after Laconia and its citizens. In the Statehouse, as state representative, he is a voice for Laconia and the local concerns and interests that can truly influence how the Statehouse operates and the way it affects families, business and communities across New Hampshire. Both positions demand time, effort and an opportunity to participate.
Leadership isn't about being popular. It's about listening, explaining, having a backbone, and working tirelessly for your community even when people disagree. Complex issues like homelessness, public safety, and city priorities require solutions and focus.
No politician can fix everything in a day. And no one should expect that of them. But what we should be able to expect of our elected representatives are accessibility, responsiveness and a willingness to meet with us.
Mike Bordes works at city hall representing Laconia, while also a Statehouse representative for the same district. I like the accessible way of relating to voters.
Ultimately, public service is about people, not labels. Our community thrives when Laconia's mayor and state representative are transparent, engaged and make the effort to come back out and do the work that is important to all of us. Vote for Mike Bordes on Nov. 3.
