To The Daily Sun,

Mr. Wiles: Previously it was written you have the right to express your opinions, whether they are correct or not. Others also have this right, even though some agree and do not agree with you. I defend this right to free speech and protest. Protest and dissent are patriotic. That is how our country evolved.

When it comes to name calling, those who are without sin can toss the first stone. So often your writings demonstrate the very name calling you detest. The sadness discussed is a concern by many (a majority of U.S. citizens by the way), about our country's current state of affairs. Divisiveness has been quite pronounced and growing like a cancer within, since the election of Trump. His diatribe of racist, bigoted, unconstitutional comments have attracted a small minority of his acclaimed base, especially the "white supremacists." It is quite clear that both Mr. Trump and the white supremacists are a clear and present danger to our communities, country, and this planet.

I did not vote for either Trump or Ms. Clinton as per above. It was my contention both candidates were equally responsible for the deep divisions in this country. These acts are reprehensible and must stop. His actions seem to be worse in that these clearly align with those of Hitler and Mussolini. Trump's grandfather, as stated in the last article, was advised to leave Germany. This was correctly demonstrated by Dr. Cracraft.

Antifa is a group opposed to fascism. The group is not a threat to our country's health, safety and welfare. Mr. Trump and the white supremacists are. They murder, kill people they do not like. They claim the law as per the Bible. Yet the Bible teaches against these very actions. The commandment "Thou shalt not kill" is repudiated repeatedly. When shootings or other events occur, no one escapes, including innocent whites, blacks, asians, children, and immigrants. The statements of Ms. Chong and Dr. Cracraft are not trash, the actions of Mr. Trump and white supremacists are. The Bible also supports, "Love thy neighbor as thyself." Hatred is the opposite of the love that was preached by Jesus Christ. I am a naturalist, not a Christian, but it would do well that all of us honor the teachings this Bible provides.

The Trump insults of immigrants and women should be sufficient for impeachment alone. How is it that he gets away with the sexual abuse claims by so many women? Money? Bribery? What is really sad is that some people do not get it. The comments about Baltimore were gross, and aligned with the comments on “rapists, criminals, and druggies.” I personally have seen Baltimore. It is a beautiful city. Yes, like most cities in the U.S., it has its urban problems. But these were actually induced by bigoted whites. If the economy were inclusive, many of the cities would be in much better shape.

The environment is under attack. This is supported by real scientific evidence. Michigan, our national park system has been trampled by forces in the name of profit and dollars, with disrespect for the people on those lands as well as the ecosystem presently in place. Life experiences and personal observations are congruent with these scientific findings, which are indisputable. Flint, Michigan shows both insults to its residents and the surrounding communities. Given the rapid rate of the icebergs melting, influenced by industrial greed, one would not be surprised of NYC and Washington are under water potentially even in all our lifetimes. An environmental catastrophe would change the geographic realities, and air qualities in all major continents.

That being said, I am not confused. I am a realist. It is real that many people are bigots and racists. The real truth is, that they are in the minority in this country. Therein lies the hope for our democracy. In a recent article, it was demonstrated that there are some good actions in this state. It is also nationwide. In the course of travels, have seen, experienced or participated in many actions of volunteer assistance. There is kindness among all peoples.

I do agree Trump was elected, given the electorate felt Washington was not listening. It's obvious that Mr. Trump is not listening either, to his own staff, to the financial markets, to the citizens and immigrants to this country, except for the small minority of his bigoted base. He even insults his base, which continues to shrink daily. Trash? This is an insult to the majority American people who will not vote for Trump in 2020!

As for name calling, please preach what you teach!
