To The Daily Sun,

My name is Ed Twaddell, and I’m a Republican candidate for state representative in Meredith.

I sit on the Inter-Lakes School Board and the Meredith Conservation Commission, and volunteer with BSA Troop 55, also here in Meredith.

I grew up in Jaffrey, moving there as a boy when my dad was assigned to (what was then) Fort Devens. I enjoyed camping, fishing, canoeing, and generally being outdoors on my own and with the Boys Scouts. I was honored to earn a spot at the United States Military Academy and, after graduating in 1997, served over 25 years as an infantry officer before retiring as a colonel. During that time I served throughout the southern U.S. and deployed to Egypt, Iraq, Djibouti, and Afghanistan. When I retired from the Army, I returned to the state that I love, and where my parents and sister still live. I’ve since become a small business owner and a farmer, producing honey and pastured lamb.

Ours is a rapidly changing world, and New Hampshire must account for that change. As a state, we face housing shortages. Our youth depart after high school to start their lives … and often don’t return. We must fund education while not overburdening those residents that are on a fixed income. Here in the Lakes Region, we must balance development of this beautiful place with the preservation of that beauty. The list continues, and the solutions won’t be easy.

I spent my military career addressing problems like these. I want to bring that experience to the state legislature. I’d like to hear taxpayer thoughts. Pass them to me on my Facebook page at Twaddell for New Hampshire, or send them to me by email at Twaddell4NH@gmail.com.
