To The Daily Sun,

I looked up these numbers. The country is currently $36 trillion in debt. The budget for 2024 is $6.5 trillion. In 2023 the government took in $4.5 trillion. That is a $2 trillion-debt right there. We spent $70.5 billion in foreign aid. According to Sen. Rand Paul's annual Festivus report on "wasteful government spending", he found $1 trillion wasted on things like finding ways to make kittens suffer motion sickness. So, if we just stop spending money on stupid things like that, we could cut the debt we incur in half. That makes the total between the two $1.075 trillion. Why do I include foreign aid? Because we're not spending money our government took in from taxes/tariffs. We had to borrow that money from places like China. So, in reality we are taking out loans from foreign countries to give away to other foreign countries. We are paying 3.3% interest for money we're giving away. Quite literally borrowing from Peter to pay Paul. This insanity must stop. All these numbers leave us still with $925 billion of overspending. I sincerely hope that President Donald Trump's DOGE team can find enough cuts in the rest of our government's spending to not only cover this remaining shortfall, but begin to pay down the national debt. Readers or I would eventually get so far in debt that banks would not loan us any more money. Don't readers think that will happen to this country? I used $4.5 billion and $6.5 billion in this credit to debt ratio calculator because trillion wouldn't fit. Equivalent ratio would be times 10. Here are the numbers; home/financial/debt-to-income ratio calculator. Debt-to-income (DTI) ratio: 144%.

DTI ratio is high and may put one in more financially-risky situations.
