To The Daily Sun,
Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.
I thank Dorothy for her letter promoting her candidacy for the Gilford Budget Committee. I certainly agree with some of her points. The BudCom "SHOULD have diverse representation." IMO, if Dorothy is elected the BudCom will certainly become LESS diverse. We already have a strong majority on the BudCom of persons who prioritize what is in the best interests of the public employees — members who derive their support from "THE 700." The same group of town, county, and state employees who come out in a block no matter what, to vote the agendas of the public employee lobby. More diversification?
Will there be enough money for ALL that is needed?" Dorothy comes from the political party that has continued to insist for years that N.H., one of the 10 lowest SALT states, has a revenue problem. Dorothy knows there will ALWAYS be enough money because there is always more to be gotten out of the taxpayers. She speaks of what we "want to fund." Those choices are the responsibility of the voters on Town Meeting day. The BudCom does NOT "negotiate," it either recommends or not, the warrant article line items.
IMO, Dorothy is not motivated or capable of thinking outside of the box. The same formulas of public employee compensation need to be examined. We need to pay our entry level and recent hire police MORE money. We need to pay our lifeguards more money. WE will always need to maintain and improve public safety. Would Dorothy advocate for 6 percent to 10 percent pay increases for the lowest paid town employees WHEN vacancies continue being impossible to fill, without awarding twice or more of those gross sums to our highest paid employees? You know we have never done "IT" that way. If we did, it wouldn't be fair to who? Voters have a choice when they vote at Town Meeting. IMO, we can rely on Dorothy to be as "considerate of the taxpayers concerns" as was enjoyed by the taxpayers in the School Board's selection of the negotiator of the current education industry teacher's contract.
Just like Dorothy, I share a fierce support for our county park, a treasure bequeathed to us by our grandparents and great-grandparents. I confess to having a conflict of interest on those county budget issues. We do have a lot in common.
