To The Daily Sun,
I was delighted to see recognition given in The Sun to the Mobile Integrated Health Program and especially to paramedic Winnie Tunstall. When I was caring for my late husband, I was completely ignorant and untrained in the skills I needed. We were referred to Winnie by Dr. Joshua Morrison in the Concord Hospital-Laconia emergency department, and she helped me fill the gaps in services for home care.
Until Joe was ready for hospice, I struggled to coordinate essential services from Granite VNA and Comfort Keepers with my own efforts. Winnie taught me and modeled for me how to handle the unfamiliar comfort and hygiene skills. She always left me feeling more capable and cheerful.
This program is properly viewed not as an expense but as an investment in both quality of life and reduced health care costs to patients, hospitals, and government. It should continue to be funded.
