GILFORD — Two people were killed in a three-vehicle accident Friday afternoon on the Route 3/11 bypass, just before the Gilford Avenue exit. Two others were injured.
Deputy Police Chief Dustin Parent said there were four people and three vehicles involved in the accident, which occurred at 3:16 p.m. on Nov. 14. Two adults, who were driving, died at the scene, and two other people were injured.
Parent said one person was treated for their injuries at the scene then released, and another was transported to Concord Hospital-Laconia. He said no children were involved in the accident.
It was not immediately clear whether there were life saving measures taken for the accident victims.
A photographer at the scene reported the bypass was closed to traffic on both ends. State Police and Laconia Police assisted Gilford, and the Laconia Fire Department sent an ambulance and an engine, according to a city firefighter. The photographer also said they heard a helicopter in the area.
Photographs show a black SUV with heavy rear damage, and the passenger side wheel and wheel well damaged. It was facing south, but in the northbound lane. To the left of the SUV were two vehicles in a ditch with both driver doors opened, surrounded by debris. The photographer observed damage on the southbound side of the guardrail.
Gilford Police and Fire personnel were busy with multiple calls that came in at the time of the accident.
Parent said it is too early to identify a potential cause of the accident.
