To The Daily Sun,

Your correspondent Marie Winner (Tuesday, April 25) makes the comment that many European countries have successfully banned the sale of  "automatic weapons" (a.k.a firearms). What she fails to note is that the bans were, for the  most part, passed following the American Revolution, which could not have succeeded without an armed citizenry.

The rulers of the European nations wanted to prevent a similar occurrence in their own countries. Such legislation meant that the common citizens of those countries never got the chance to arm themselves and thus the monarchs and dictators of the day were able to maintain the status quo.

Which has WHAT to do with the firearm situation in this country TODAY? Are you planning a coup right now? I have lived 6 decades without needing a firearm. I write to my representatives, I vote and I keep the peace. I volunteer and I remain law abiding. If you have something you want changed, plan a PEACEFUL protest, write to the paper to have printed what you think we should focus on. Today we do not need anymore violence-which sounds to me what you are advocating.
