To The Daily Sun,

As a Meredith voter, I have been paying attention to the candidates seeking to represent our community in the New Hampshire House. Two candidates whose backgrounds and stated priorities that have particularly impressed me are Dean Cascadden and Seth Wheeler.

What I value about Dean Cascadden is the breadth of his experience in public education. His career as an educator and school administrator gives him firsthand experience with the challenges facing students, families, teachers, and local school districts. I also appreciate his emphasis on environmental stewardship, particularly the importance of protecting the lakes and natural resources that are such an important part of life in our region. His focus on property tax fairness, especially for communities where local taxpayers carry much of the cost of essential services, is another issue of importance to me.

I also value Seth Wheeler's professional and community experience. His background in communications and his work with New Hampshire Electric Cooperative give him a perspective on both public policy and the practical infrastructure issues facing our state. I appreciate his emphasis on strengthening public education, expanding opportunities for affordable housing, and addressing the infrastructure costs that can make new housing difficult to develop. His stated interest in renewable-energy incentives reflects the importance I believe New Hampshire needs in preparing for future energy needs and addressing climate change.

Both candidates have identified issues that directly affect the quality and affordability of life in our community. Their professional backgrounds are different, but each brings experience that I believe is relevant to the responsibilities of a state representative who works for the people in Meredith and Belknap County. I urge residents to vote for Dean Cascadden and Seth Wheeler for state representatives to represent Meredith in Concord.
