To The Daily Sun,
I don't reside in Laconia, but I'm concerned about its future and I'm watching this mayoral election closely with increasing concerns.
Bruce Cheney has been around city politics for years, and his dedication is deserving of respect, but there comes a time when it's simply time to get out of the way. Mr. Cheney is 82 years old, and he should be enjoying life at its best, not working at one of the toughest jobs in municipal government.
But this isn't just about age, it's about ideas. Times have changed, and leadership needs to change with them. Laconia deserves a mayor who understands today's problems and is ready to act on them with new solutions, not recycled answers. More of the same politics won't fix new issues.
Even national leaders have had to realize that timeliness and age do matter. The Democratic Party did just that with President Joe Biden. Laconia can and should be smart enough to do the same.
If the city truly desires progress, then it needs to put the past behind it. That means putting leaders on the ballot who can represent the future, regardless of the past.
