Chuck McGee: Don't our leaders read history books?

To The Daily Sun,

How absolutely heartbreaking to watch the United States, with supposedly the most powerful military in the world, abandon Afghanistan, after investing billions of dollars and thousands of American lives.

From the start, leaving at some point was inevitable, but now being done in the worst possible way. A total retreat in the middle of the summer “fighting season”. Running away with our tail between our legs and leaving millions of dollars of equipment behind for the Taliban.

Time and again, our leaders get us into wars we can’t win. Why? Don’t any of them read the history books? Don’t they know you can‘t win a “culture” war? Good intentions aside, how many more times do we have to do this before we “get it”?

It took the Russians only 10 years to figure Afghanistan out. It took us 20. What a sad embarrassment. We are now the new British Empire. On the way down. Don’t think our adversaries aren’t watching. They smell weakness and act accordingly.
