Chuck McGee: Chuck McGee running again for commissioner in Carroll

Since being elected two years ago, my fellow Carroll County Commissioners and I have brought strong management and leadership to Carroll County. We’ve improved services, controlled expenses, and are planning for the future. We’ve made good progress and have more to do.

Commissioners manage a $45M budget. Twenty-five million dollars of that is taxpayer dollars. It’s a job that requires hands-on leadership and management. This year, we held the budget increase to 3% in spite of challenging energy and insurance cost increases. For the third year in a row, we’re on track to end the year below budgeted expenses and above projected revenue. The Mountain View Community nursing home operations continue to improve. We’re now at a four star rating and should be back to the top five-stars after this year. Additionally, we’ve completed the two-year implementation of our new IT system, a major upgrade that allows for better efficiency. We’ve also transitioned to a new, much-improved, accounting software program to better track and control expenses. We’ll continue planning for the future. We’re exploring the feasibility of a fifty-room memory care/assisted living expansion at MVC to meet the growing needs of our Carroll County seniors. We’re also planning a timber harvest early next year and hope to use that area to develop hiking trails after the harvest. These are just a few of the things we’re working on.

As commissioners, we take our responsibility to the taxpayers seriously. We have three jobs: manage the financials, maintain services, and plan for the future. If reelected, these current commissioners will continue the strong leadership necessary to provide the best possible services for the residents of Carroll County. I ask for readers' vote on Nov. 3 to continue the progress we’ve made over the last two years.
