Charles H. Bradley III: Trump recently labeled 'Blue Slip Procedure' as outdated

Are readers wondering why the Republican Senate has accomplished almost nothing of Donald Trump’s legislative agenda? If not, they should be. And here is why the feckless Republicans again fail the 80 million voters who returned Donald J. Trump to the White House as the 47th president of the United States.

Simply put, there is the “Blue Slip Procedure Scam” in the U.S. Senate which allows the Democrat minority to control the Senate agenda: the closest guarded secret in Washington, D.C. Here is how it works:

In the U.S. Senate the “blue slip” is, surprisingly, a blue piece of paper that allows a home state senator to veto a presidential nominee by preventing a vote. The blue slip is presented to the senate parliamentarian who enters it into the official Senate record, instead of where it really belongs. President Trump recently labeled the Blue Slip Procedure as “stupid and outdated." I would add the Blue Slip Procedure is outrageously unfair to presidential nominees who, upon nomination, should be entitled to a vote. As a political junkie, I had never heard a senator discuss the Blue Slip scam, although it has been a Senate procedure for a century — thank you, Sen. Ted Cruz and Sen. Mike Lee.

Of course, the cowardly Republicans could eliminate this procedure by a simple majority vote. However, they prefer to allow the betrayal of the Trump agenda even though it is within their power to eliminate the “Blue Slip Scam."

I predict when the Democrats return to power in the White House and the Senate, the first order of business will be elimination of the Blue Slip Process to control the legislative agenda to America’s detriment. In case readers are wondering the Republicans rarely invoke the Blue Slip.
