To The Daily Sun,
One morning I had a thought: Will any Republican ever dare to come out against Donald Trump?
Because of George W. Bush lying about weapons of mass destruction leading to the Iraq war, I vowed to never vote Republican again. In came Trump and reaffirmed my conviction. Lo and behold, I settled that evening to read The Sun, as is my ritual, and find this unique Republican in Sky Danley who actually says aloud what his colleagues believe but too afraid to state openly. What a breath of fresh air. Sen. Angus King (I-Maine) released a statement echoing Mr. Danley’s comment: “I never thought I would see the day when masked and armed men in unmarked cars would be roaming the streets and neighborhoods of America, acting in utter disregard of the legal constraints that are basic to our freedoms." He added, "It’s becoming more and more clear that the stated basis for this gross violation of our rights — that they are ridding our communities of ‘the worst of the worst’ — is a lie, and the real purpose is to establish a national police force to do the bidding of a corrupt and lawless administration.”
“It is past time for Congress to do its duty and, for once,” he said, “put country ahead of party.”
By the way, I’m a lifelong registered Democrat who always voted for the person, not the party. Due to its recent history though, I won’t vote Republican for a long time, if ever.
