To The Daily Sun,
Regarding the security breach:
While on active duty as a Naval Officer decades ago, I was my command’s classified material control office, one of my numerous collateral duties. We had confidential, secret, and a small amount of top secret material — all print. Monthly we had to do an audit and sign off on what was going in a burn bag. Triple signatures required, bags sealed and signed, two people to take the bags to the burn center and stay to watch them go into the incinerator ... As a Naval Reserve officer, I had to use a scramble phone (landline) for any classified conversations and for many years worked in a sealed, windowless building accessible with identification. My daughters (active duty Naval officer, civilian employee of USMC and a USMC Reserve officer) are not allowed to take their personal devices into the buildings where they work — and they are way down the food chain from the secretary of defense, the head of the CIA, the head of the NSA. Those clowns ought to be fired. A true leader owns up to mistakes and lays out a corrective action plan; a true leader resigns in disgrace rather than let down his or her team.

Thank you for this factual summary of handling our country's most classified materials. My family members share similar experiences during their USAF and USN service times and federal civil service. It is unacceptable that our nation's leaders don't know the rules or choose to ignore them.. Thank you for your service! Mine was the best thing I could have done for myself at age 20!!
