To The Daily Sun,

Democratic presidential hopefuls continue to misinform the public to increase their chances of election this November. My letters try to point out how the Democrats and left-leaning media deliberately make statements that have little basis in fact. I have focused a lot on the numbers because those are easily looked up at reputable websites like the IRS, BLS (Bureau of Labor and Statistics), CMS (Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services), etc.

Here is a link to see where various news outlets fall in the “bias” spectrum: (https://www.allsides.com/media-bias/media-bias-ratings). The “biased” media is failing to provide both sides on any issue so voters can make an informed decision when they go to the ballot box. My letters are trying to fill in what’s “not” being reported.

For example, here is a link (https://data.bls.gov/pdq/SurveyOutputServlet) showing the trends of the work force participation rate (WFPR). If you extend the range from 1948 to present you will see that president Obama oversaw the largest decline in WFPR ever. When President Trump took office, the downward decline stopped and has been gradually climbing.

I recently, read an letter on how great president Obama’s accomplishments were. I noticed that declining WFPR was not on the list. Nor was the national debt as a percentage of gross domestic product (GDP). Here is that data (https://www.macrotrends.net/1381/debt-to-gdp-ratio-historical-chart), it shows that when President Obama took office in January 2009 the ratio was 77.3 percent and in January 2017 it was 103.4 percent, an increase of 26.1 percent over his eight years in office. By comparison under president Trump the ratio increased from 103.4 percent to 105.5 percent for an increase of 2.1 percent. If I wanted to do what the left-leaning media does, I would use the numbers from when both presidents were elected in November. In this case the numbers were 73% in November 2008, 105.2% in November 2016 and 105.5% in September 2019. In this case the increase under Obama would have been 31.7 percent compared to .3 percent under Trump. The reason is obvious! The nation debt increased nearly $10 trillion dollars under the Obama administration. Ignoring that fact is also dishonest when singing president Obama’s praises.

So where did the $10 trillion go? Well, health care was a major source. I explained that in this letter in July 2019. (https://www.laconiadailysun.com/opinion/letters_to_editor/obamacare-hasn-t-lowered-health-care-costs-just-the-opposite/article_56aa434c-ae3f-11e9-8820-33969a161d2f.html), The point was to show that health care costs increased 26 percent for the average tax payer between 2010 and 2018. Who was “hurt”? American workers.

I’ll close with an opinion. The reason president Trump is in the White House now is because under president Obama people were losing jobs and their cost of living (and health care) were going up. With more jobs and higher wages under president Trump, the same voters want it to continue. The left’s continual denial of President Trump’s accomplishments and omissions of president Obama’s fiscal irresponsibility are undeniable. That “perception” is necessary; however, to garner enough votes in 2020 to force us into a socialist-style government where freedom and opportunity will be lost for a generation.
