Bruce Jenket: Democrats are not addressing the country's huge deficit

In 2025 (Oct 3. 2024-Oct. 3, 2025) the National Debt increased $2.17 trillion and is now over $37 trillion, tinyurl.com/5f8hauas. Does anyone on left care? I have to assume not, since it’s never mentioned by leftist contributors. Rather, they complain of any spending cuts the Trump administration and Republicans propose.

The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has identified an estimated savings of $214 billion in waste, fraud and abuse, tinyurl.com/4rz6rf7s.

In 2010, Democrats passed Obamacare without Republican support. They called it the Affordable Care Act (ACA) but it should have been called the Unaffordable Care Act. The Obamacare subsidies cost the American taxpayers between $130B and $150B in 2024, tinyurl.com/msr37uch.

Another falsely named bill by Democrats was the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) passed in 2022. This Wall Street Journal article claimed “The real cost of the IRA subsidies: $1.2 trillion,” tinyurl.com/54snr7r4.

Democratic controlled cities and states are fighting ICE to retain criminal illegal aliens. Why? Do we not have enough murders, rapes, thefts and aggravated assaults in our country? I can understand not wanting to deport noncriminal aliens but even those illegal aliens cost Americans tens of billions annually according to this congressional report, tinyurl.com/yuesbbp3.

I’ve recently detailed how the 2017 Tax Cuts & Jobs Act (TC&JA) increased taxes on the wealthiest Americans by 56.5% while reducing taxes for the working poor by 7.4%. The leftist contributors have gone silent. Sens. Maggie Hassan and Jeanne Shaheen and Reps. Chris Pappas and Maggie Goodlander never responded to my repeated requests for comment.

I could go on but the leftists will just dig their heels in deeper. They have no ideas on how to deliver a balanced budget. That includes our four representatives listed above. Something has got to change before we drive off the fiscal cliff.
