To The Daily Sun,

Know your candidate. And vote. It is not enough to go out and vote if you don’t know who you are voting for. This is how we get bad people up the line. They start at lowest level but move up each time until they are in a position to hurt you.

Many times, they say know “your candidate” but after you read the piece, they have said nothing.

Tuesday, March 12 there are several small-town elections. All seats are important.

In the town of Belmont, there are seats available on the selectboard. Ruth Mooney is running for one of them.

She was born and raised in Belmont on a farm. She lives and runs a farm still. She built and ran a huge enterprise known as Briarcrest which houses some 240 homes. At the same time, she had a sand and gravel business and several properties rented to businesses. When she sold the business and most of the other businesses, she decided to devote her time and energy to the town she was brought up in. With the same vigorous energy, she is up at the barn at 5 a.m. and she cleans the stables and raises lamb, sheep and beef each year. She also maintains a vegetable garden and raises eggs. With this same energy she operates as a selectperson. She spends her nights and many days looking into each subject that comes up and gives it all her attention and drive.

She has served several years on the board and currently is the chairperson. Under her, much has been done to improve the town and when she first went in the value of Belmont was $525 million. Today it is valued at $1.3 billion.

Again, know your candidate. Vote.
