At Inter-Lakes Elementary School, the Garden Club is planting more than seeds — it is growing connections, building skills, and cultivating a sense of community, one project at a time. The new Garden Club for students in grades 3 through 6 offers hands-on opportunities to learn about gardening, teamwork, and community. With the guidance of club advisors and teachers, students are cultivating new skills, building connections, and discovering the rewards of working together. The club kicked off the school year by harvesting crops left over from the summer growing season, cleaning out garden beds, and preparing for a fresh round of planting. Students have already planted a variety of crops, including herbs, kale, lettuce, radishes, and more, while also finding creative ways to share the fruits of their labor and spread kindness throughout the school community. The group recently used some of its harvest to make homemade salsa and delivered notes of appreciation to staff members, connecting their gardening efforts with lessons in gratitude and giving back. With a new growing season underway, the Garden Club is looking forward to more planting, harvesting, and projects in the months ahead. Whether they are tending to vegetables, preparing/sharing fresh food, or finding ways to brighten someone’s day, these young gardeners are demonstrating how a little teamwork and care can help a school community flourish.
