Bob LaFlamme: Republicans need to take party back from the radicals

When the Republican Party was founded in 1854 there was a group that was called Radical Republicans. What was radical about these Republicans was that they wanted to see slavery abolished in the United States. This was a very radical idea in our country at the time, especially in the Southern states. Their candidate, and one of our greatest presidents, Abraham Lincoln was elected in 1860 and was able to end slavery as well as preserve the union of our states.

There are radical Republicans in our nation and our state today whose purpose is much less noble than the radicals of old.

Nationally, the party has been taken over by the MAGA Republicans who are doing all they can to put Donald Trump back in the White House. These efforts include voter restrictions, packing the Supreme Court, enacting unconstitutional election laws, denying that the 2020 election was won by Joe Biden, spreading false conspiracy theories, and too many others to list here.

New Hampshire has its share of MAGA believers but we also have a large number of Free Staters who, as their name tells us, want New Hampshire to secede from the United States. Who says history doesn’t repeat itself?

My point is these radicals are the ones in control of the Republican Party. The moderates who remain feel they must go along with their schemes to take over our state and country.

I hope this letter appeals to undecided voters and they will refrain from voting for any Republican candidates until they take their party back from the radicals.
