To The Daily Sun,

The Belknap County Delegation and Commission act regionally on our behalf. Regionalization should not end with them. Individual municipalities should act regionally in their best interest, too.

Mutual aide is a wonderful example of regionalization of fire protection which services our communities for the common good. Common sense dictates that cost savings should be available to be shared by all taxpayers by avoiding duplication. The lower the shared infrastructure cost of a service, the greater the tax benefits to citizens.

Exactly why does that not extend to trash and recycling facilities for neighboring Gilford and Laconia?

Urge your community leaders to seek to come together, not go it alone. We are a community, not islands of self interest. Like many "locals," my family lives regionally and thus thinks regionally. Being good stewards of taxpayer resources make financial common sense, and a little goodwill between communities is a good thing too.
