To the editor,

Another Bike Week is upon us and the weather looks more promising than last year, which means the crowd could be even larger. I personally don't mind Bike Week and avoid the really crowded areas as much as possible. If nothing else, the event puts Laconia on the map and brings in a lot of visitors and money. Okay, and noise.

What does bother me is that the mayor and council continue to promise to deal with some of the problems created by the event, and last year even formed a committee to make recommendations to council that could make it a better event. Yet, that committee has not issued a report and from newspaper accounts, won't have anything to say until after Bike Week. How ridiculous is that?

Obviously, not everyone in Laconia likes the annual event, while many others are true supporters. It isn't going away, so the best thing is to make sure some of the opponents' concerns are addressed. They may not become supporters, but perhaps their opposition won't be so great.

So I ask the mayor and council and the Motorcycle Week committee to take seriously their promise and examine the issues carefully. If more people were profiting from Bike Week there would be less opposition. And if the city coffers could benefit, it would be a real plus.
