To the editor,
This is in response to the letter dated Sept. 10 from Mrs. Wells regarding why I believe "Patsy's Potty" should not be located in the woodshed section of the Sanbornton Town Hall. The structure has no foundation or a structural floor and is falling away from the main building. The woodshed is in such disrepair that it should be demolished before it falls down. If it had been inspected by a building inspector, structural engineer or a builder before 'Plan A' went into effect and out to bid, we would not have wasted money on the drawings.
Mrs. Wells' comment that Mr. Foudriat and Mr. Cioffi found a neighbor to do this for free is completely absurd. I volunteered when Mr. Livernois talked about the possibility of saving money and the getting the job done. I offered to draw new plans and do the framing labor at no cost to the town if the Board of Selectmen would consider using the existing toilet room location. There would be no change of the windows and the space would accommodate two handicap accessible toilet rooms.
As to Mrs. Wells trying to patiently explain her reason to build a unisex toilet in the woodshed, she had plenty of time during her administration as a selectman and a building committee member to do so.
The existing opening to the toilet room has adequate space for wheelchair accessibility according to American Disability Association standards. The "Plan B" floor will be insulated and the foundation openings (two) will be closed. The Town Hall historic integrity is not in jeopardy with "Plan B".
If the new estimate and plans are accepted by the Board of Selectmen, there will no longer be any concern about the possibilities of the seat being left up or down. With the help of volunteers this can become a reality. If Mrs. Wells is still puzzled about how this can be accomplished, it is what we call community involvement. Thanks to the present Board of Selectmen for having open minds to get this project underway. The people are tired of not
getting the job done and wasteful spending. I do hope this situation will soon be resolved.
