To the editor,
First, please permit me to say that although I don't own a motorcycle and have never rode one, I and my family are not against Motorcycle Week. Solve the noise issue and we think it's a great happening.
However, it's time to ask how many citizens voted for Mr. St. Clair and what elected office does he hold in Laconia. For the amount of press he receives, one might think that he is holding a public office. You people in the press sure do chase his opinion.
I would guess that the overwhelming majority of citizens believe that at the very least, Motorcycle Week should not cost the city one penny. In fact, if anything, our town officials ought to be smart enough to figure out a way to make money on this event, and if they can't, then they should be voted out of office ASAP.
I think it's great you get around to all these events and see first hand how we can improve our event. Perhaps you should be a tad more positive and constructive. I, for one, am tired of reading everything we can't do according to you and your organization. If you are the Executive Director of Rally and Race, then why doesn't your group take responsibility for the event and its costs?
Obviously, anyone who has lived in Laconia for a long time or for only a few years can see that this event is big business — with a select few making big bucks. OK, then the town should also have a fair share.
Let's give the Motorcycle Committee a fair opportunity and let's hope our town officials have the courage to do what's necessary to improve this event.
