To the editor,

We are all starting to hear more about a “Smart Grid”. It’s an intelligent system that can monitor and control the electrical power to your home. We heard it during the presidential campaign and now we are reading about it in the New Hampshire Electric Co-Op “TODAY” newsletter. The Co-op has received federal grants from the Department of Energy funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. Assistance from project advocates and the office of U.S. Senator Jean Shaheen (D-NH) has made the Smart Grid Pilot Program a reality here in the Lakes Region.

Energy conservation is always a good thing but do you really want the power company controlling the use of your heat, air conditioning and temperature of your refrigerator?

Bloom Energy Corporation has just introduced a solid oxide based fuel cell energy server. Developed as part of NASA Mars space program by a team of scientist and engineers who applied the technology to commercial use. The unit sits on your property and generates power to run your home or business. Big businesses such as Google, Ebay and Walmart are already using this and as prices come down it will become available for home owners.

The future is not a Smart Grid but NO GRID!
