To the editor,
The 2010 Spring Roadside Clean-up sponsored by the Joint Loss Management Committee of the Town of Gilford Employees, was held on May 6. Many thanks to the Parks & Recreation Department for organizing employees and family members who turned out on a brisk day to pick trash and debris from our section of Route 11-B to the Laconia city line.
We are also grateful to the many residents along this stretch of the road who regularly clean up their own neighborhood year-round and deserve special thanks.
It’s always intriguing to discuss what was found after each event. This time was no different. Among the styrofoam coffee cups, beer bottles and hubcaps was a wild animal carcass, a CO2 gun, handcuffs and an interesting DVD. One never knows! In all 21 bags of garbage was collected. Special thanks to Herb Greene, Tracie Bettez, Wes Berghan and Kristin Jarvi of Park & Rec, Scott Dunn and Sandy Bailey of the selectmen’s office, Sheldon Morgan, Terry Clairmont and Richard Abbott of Public Works, Krista, Katie and Kori Low of Fire-Rescue, and Stephanie Verdile-Philibotte of Planning and Land Use.
