To the editor,

It was heartening, as are all David and Goliath stories, to see a front page article on Lebanon's efforts to take on Shaw's Supermarkets. I'm a resident of Gilmanton who decided to boycott the Shaw's Supermarkets in the area as soon as I learned that they had decided not only to close the Butson's in downtown Laconia, but to forbid another grocery store to open in that location.

I have read of the effort to open another food market in the Laconia area and hope to see that idea become a reality. In the meantime, a joining together of Laconia, Lebanon, and Littleton to battle Shaw's high-handed and reprehensible tactics seems to me an excellent idea and I would urge the leaders of all three cities to seriously consider such a move.
